Life on the Lake

 The Ducks Come Back

The lake had another visit from those couple of hundred ducks that I told you about the other day. BUT, I need to correct a couple of things.

First....The ducks numbered about 1,000 instead of 200.

Second....That noise I said was from flapping was not from the flapping but from the ducks ducking underwater and coming back up and then shaking the water off. (Like water off a duck's back?)

Other people in the Park noticed them also. Unfortunately, the ducks noticed them too, and they took flight. That was great to see, but I wish they hadn't been startled.

Hopefully, they'll come back today.

Talk to you later.

P.S. It's COLD!!

 Update on Flea

I'm happy to report that the flea sighting last week seems to be an isolated incident! My dog Paris continues to be flea-free.

Right now, she is lying in the hallway with her nose tucked under her front leg, and no flea is disturbing her rest. She is in her morning/afternoon nap phase now. She has had her "needs" met, and she is content. Her needs are quite simple. The first need is a "long & brisk" walk (around 7AM) where she checks all the smells that happened in her territory. The long & brisk walk is followed about 30 minutes later by the "find me a person" walk. The objective of this walk is to locate someone who will pet her. She is very pettable, thank goodness. She is a greyhound with a big grin and a long, wagging tail. She is conveniently at the right height for petting. No-one has to stoop down to pet her! Today, we found her favorite petting person so Paris is totally content. So, Paris is down now and will be happy until late afternoon.

Talk to ya'll later.

 Flock of Ducks

Yesterday, the lake was visited by white pelicans. Today, the lake was visited by ducks.....a couple hundred of them. As I was watching them, they started flapping their wings, but not taking off. They were just flapping, and they made quite a noise. Never had thought about that!

I also experimented today with this blogsite color. Did you notice that the background color is blue now.....instead of white?!?

 Flock of White Pelicans

This afternoon, the lake had visitors. One hundred white pelicans flew in and began cruising around. They only stayed a short time, but it was wonderful to see. After about 15 minutes, small groups began taking off until they were all finally gone.

One interesting note.....they were swimming downwind. As they prepared to take off, they turned into the wind (a very light breeze) and took off.

 Balloon Volleyball

I live in an RV Park and am a member of a club where monthly rallies are held. Once a month, club members gather for a week-end of fellowship, games, food, and education......with emphasis on FUN. In addition to monthly club rallies, there are also yearly State Rallies, yearly Regional Rallies, Computer Club Rallies, Ham Radio Rallies, and the list goes on and on.

Well, last week-end was Rally Weekend for our club. Part of the activity was some preparation for the Regional Rally. At the Regional Rally, there are contests. Of course, these contests are all in FUN, but that doesn't mean the competition is slack. Heavens No! The competition is exactly what the word says.....competitive!

And one of the competitions is Balloon Volleyball.

I had never played Balloon Volleyball. I learned that the rules are just like volleyball. I learned that a balloon is used instead of a volleyball, and I learned that the court is smaller. I also learned that there was only one additional rule...NO STANDING ALLOWED. (Did I mention that the players are sitting in chairs?)

I tried to stop laughing, but I just couldn't stop.

I never would have thought that a balloon could sail over the net
or that a balloon could be spiked over the net
or that a well-placed breath of air could assist a team!

I played many games. What a blast. Who would have thought? We will have a team for the Regional Rally, but we already know who will win. It seems that there is a club whose members practice Balloon Volleyball twice a week all year round. They ALWAYS win. I don't anticipate our club breaking their winning streak. But who knows.....stranger things have happened!

Ya'll take care.

Talk with you later.
